The kick-off meeting of the EnergyGuard project took place on 23-24 January. The EnergyGuard project aims to develop and maintain an experimentation facility to drive innovation in AI applied to the energy sector.
What is EnergyGuard?
EnergyGuard will establish a pan-European network of five interconnected Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEFs) across diverse energy ecosystems, in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Latvia.
These facilities will be accessible through digital twins, models and services in an AI test environment, enabling product validation through an acceptance environment and a risk database.
CIEMAT in EnergyGuard
CEDER-CIEMAT is involved in several key tasks within the project. One of its main contributions is the development of predictive models of energy demand and generation based on artificial intelligence. This will optimise the use of energy resources and improve the operational efficiency of smart grids.

In addition, CEDER-CIEMAT is working on the implementation of advanced microgrid management strategies. These strategies will allow for the optimisation of the storage and distribution of renewable energy, which will increase the resilience of the network to variations in generation and demand.
Another key aspect of CEDER-CIEMAT’s participation is the implementation of an electrolyser for integration into the grid. This will allow its performance to be assessed in different operating scenarios.
Energy Generation in the long-term
Various tests will be carried out to analyse its efficiency, stability and response capacity to variations in energy generation and demand. These tests will contribute to the development of optimal operating strategies for the production of green hydrogen and its integration with renewable sources, improving the sustainability and viability of the energy system.
Advanced controllers will also be developed to optimise hydrogen production and improve the efficiency of electrolysis processes. This will contribute to cost reduction and increased viability of hydrogen as a sustainable energy carrier.

Finally, internal meetings between CIEMAT and FORA have already begun to coordinate and develop the project tasks, ensuring efficient and effective implementation of the proposed solutions.
